The sound of silence

Yep, it's been a while. The squeaker was engendered around the time of the last post (2010...) and life has been chaos since. But phoenix-like, my life arises out of the ashes and things might just turn around. I have a steampunk dragon costume in mind for someone short for Hallowe'en this year... Fingers crossed, there may even be more cartoons!

Last one. So many choices!

Valentine retrospective

I got a little over excited on Valentine's Day. I clearly don't have enough to do.

Pink pancakes for breakfast. Somewhat heart-shaped. And possibly with initials on them.

Followed by heart-shaped chocolate muffins. Again, a very liberal interpretation of "heart-shaped" and a general inclination to ignore the cracked, scarred and broken appearance of said hearts.

And a little personal adornment.

Yes, my hoodie has pink hearts on it. Yes, the colour of the jewellery clashes with the colour of the clothing. Yes, the jewellery is made from what remained of the slightly brownish red polymer clay I mixed up for the swan beaks.

And no, the glass beads did not explode when I baked them.

seven swans a-swimming

Unfortunately, these do not depend gracefully from their little gold strings. They tend to list to starboard, or strangle themselves. sigh... The balance point of the armature is very much not the same as the balance point of the finished model.

Made with Sculpey III clay, baked at 275F (130C) for 19 minutes.
Black: 042 black
Red: 1685 tomato red mixed with a small amount of 1657 hazelnut
White: 001 white mixed with 010 translucent; 1207 vanilla creme/010 mix; 001/1207/010 mix
Armature: #20 gauge galvanized steel wire [Cobra, made in Canada]
Hanging eyelets: #20 gauge tarnish resistant copper wire (gold) [Darice, made in Pakistan]
Fimo gloss varnish used on eyes and beaks.

eyewateringly loud flowers

Okay, this is mostly here for the vase. I like the vase. The flowers are exercises in construction and duplication of shapes. Also an object lesson in colour management. Custom colours do not survive the transition from ai to jpeg. ouch ouch ouch my retinas ouch ouch
